I got it back from my Grandpa today, and it turned out really great so far. Now I just have to finish it without messing it up.<div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuHRUNU0ZIB6rCWJ4xeeUOH2oiwpiRuEsUNf1CuW258yhiwlH5wGVDODY2RvtGIdx0MdxVJUB3OTalA6mAR5KvvE-d8HkqWCTxNHsWwD-19jMhyphenhyphen4XcN5yAjgItEtprsD17_o9uzujCQRYi/s320/IMG_2648.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315805026655810594" /><div>First thing I did when it was opened today was check out the details, and noticed what a great job my Grandpa had done so far. Everything was cut out perfectly, the neck fits snugly and there weren't any rough spots.</div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Afterwards, I went and measured off the locations for my fret markers (or inlay) and we (my dad and I) took the drill bit to the fingerboard, then glued them in. I also filled in some of the grain on the body (Mahogany is very spongy) and installed the truss rod. The neck only needs tuner </div><div>holes drilled, frets and to be shaped now, and then it is done. The body needs some routing done(neck pickup and control cavity) and to be painted. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>I was originally going to paint it glow in the dark, because I thought that it would look cool. But then I realized just how good looking this piece of wood was, and decided that it will be stained deep blue. After that, all it will need is some drilling (to fit the bridge, neck and strap buttons) and some fine tuning and it will be done.</div><img style="text-align: justify;float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 134px; height: 200px; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG3XWzXTDDQXKZpQpLtKbRfxtUqFKKmY0u0s89Fpl9G63fA9axanOBzfbMeGjStIS419iHCJl6oXHBwr9imgyHUp7INg2e3cGrKDrYq7Nh17OfaT2exj6hEJX1xpjRwtsGFK69Uoiz-gEE/s200/IMG_2657.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315809479714499410" />Samuelginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628194826273979969noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6852891504000238599.post-69545539490840593832008-12-10T16:15:00.001-08:002008-12-10T16:56:20.427-08:00The Start<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBc1t9U-AQiFw9W2GQBDvgXd9c-FR0-D6bwFDxWCD7An2gkPKBY32hgNh3Kjak96jPEs6eY6uND458khT6i_IcFQdJUKj4ZdHLm_r45EiXOKicDC7R5k46uFqBZEpcqKrauoSusRc6z_LZ/s1600-h/IMG_2074.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBc1t9U-AQiFw9W2GQBDvgXd9c-FR0-D6bwFDxWCD7An2gkPKBY32hgNh3Kjak96jPEs6eY6uND458khT6i_IcFQdJUKj4ZdHLm_r45EiXOKicDC7R5k46uFqBZEpcqKrauoSusRc6z_LZ/s320/IMG_2074.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5278320835858620434" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHxLFN0vZh4F5-HX15VhIV85WfgeMWGZowQryWqKhxIpLDzOC8HAIft8v-vEQ6Rae-_2UzDgyNUVmjOrWlx3S8p0JI_VyD-IwP62mymH3C93ox3ao1I5SR69FekN4nNbnhkW0erzt7O0Vs/s1600-h/IMG_2072.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHxLFN0vZh4F5-HX15VhIV85WfgeMWGZowQryWqKhxIpLDzOC8HAIft8v-vEQ6Rae-_2UzDgyNUVmjOrWlx3S8p0JI_VyD-IwP62mymH3C93ox3ao1I5SR69FekN4nNbnhkW0erzt7O0Vs/s320/IMG_2072.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5278320832744225506" /></a><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;">Ok, I got the last of the parts I need to build the guitar in today. Those parts were the body and neck pieces of wood. I'm going to send up the body with a template for my Grandpa to cut out for me (he has a bandsaw) and the neck with the width, depth, and headstock drawn on it for him to cut out.</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>He's an architect, so he designs buildings (sports stadiums to be exact) and whenever there's something he needs, he designs it how he wants it and he builds it. The picture below it, everything is on the 1-3/4" thick mahogany body blank, top left is the neck ferrules, string ferrules, telecaster humbucker bridge, and a body template made from 1/8" eucaboard cut out on a scroll saw (hand drawn based on a smaller drawing).<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Before I ship up the wood to be cut, I will cut out the truss rod cavity in the neck blank, install the truss rod, and glue on the fingerboard. <br /></span></div>Samuelginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628194826273979969noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6852891504000238599.post-38809761166931168002008-12-01T19:55:00.000-08:002008-12-01T20:01:00.393-08:00To Start Off<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">Ok,</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">Right now in my life, I'm kinda in a slow spot, but in the next year, I know that a lot will come up that I'll want to share, and starting this now, I'll be able to. Last year sometime, I decided that I wanted to make a guitar, well I finally found the time to do so and that will be my first adventure for my blog. As each step goes I'll try to post pictures and maybe explain some stuff that might be confusing to y'all out there. Oh yeah, before I forget. . .</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold; font-family:'courier new';"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(255, 153, 102);">GO GATORS!!!</span></span></div>Samuelginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03628194826273979969noreply@blogger.com0
